Happy National Nurses Week!
This week across the U.S. we join to celebrate the hard working professionals we rely on for our health and well-being: nurses. At WGU Texas, our College of Health Professions provides state-of-the-art training and instruction to our nursing students working on the BSN and MSN degrees. Our students and graduates demonstrate a dedication that ensures we can all enjoy optimum patient care when needed.
The competency-based degree programs we offer emphasize students’ ability to show what they know and are capable of doing. In nursing, as much as in any profession, this demonstration of mastery is critical. And because our working nurses come into our degree programs from different healthcare facilities, performing different tasks, it benefits them to be able to accelerate their program when working with material they’ve already mastered on the job, or slow their pace to acquire new knowledge and skills.
To celebrate National Nurses Week we are offering a contest to reward you for sharing your insights as working nurses. What about the competency-based approach appeals to you as a student? What have you learned that you now use to improve your practice? Share your thoughts by posting below and we’ll enter you in a drawing for great nursing gear in our online store. If you’re not a student, but considering applying, feel free to share your thoughts about why earning a degree will improve your ability to provide superior patient care and advance your career.
Winners will be selected in a drawing of those who commented. We’ll email winners on Monday, May 13, 2013.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, and thanks for your commitment to healthcare.
