AMARILLO WGU Texas, a nonprofit online university, has awarded a $2,000 Go Further Scholarship to Amarillo systems nurse supervisor John Willimon, who is seeking his Bachelor of Science, Business Information Technology Management through WGU Texas.
Willimon, who enrolled this summer at WGU Texas, received his associates in nursing in 1994 after working several jobs and four different positions at once, while attending school. Later, with his hard work recognized, he was promoted to supervisor of clinical systems in the technology side of nursing at Northwest Texas Healthcare System, United Healthcare Services (UHS).
“I am honored to receive the WGU Texas Go Further Scholarship,” said Willimon, who was named UHS 2017 Nurse of the Year. “This degree will ensure that I have the right education to match my years of experience in the nursing technology field and I believe this program can only enhance my future career opportunities.”
WGU Texas’ competency-based learning model is ideal for adult learnersbecause it allows students to study and learn on their own schedule and at their own pace. Students can apply what they’ve learned at work and in previous courses to move quickly through what they already know, while taking the time they need to focus on what they still need to learn. Students who devote additional time to their studies can often accelerate their programs, saving both time and money. WGU Texas faculty members work one-on-one with students as mentors, offering guidance, support, and individualized instruction.
