Most WGU Texas degree programs allow new students to begin their term on the first day of each month. Unlike traditional semesters, WGU Texas terms are six months long and based on your program start date.

Tuition Rates and Fees: (per term)

Nursing Programs MSN and BSN: $3,250 per term
B.S. Nursing Prelicensure: More Info $4,250 per term
Business and Health Master’s Programs: $3,250 per term
Business and Health Bachelor’s Programs (excluding nursing): $2,890 per term
Information Technology Programs: $2,890 per term
All Teachers College Programs: $2,890 per term
Resource Fee: $145 per term non-refundable
Application Fee: $65 non-refundable

Note: WGU Texas does not profit from application fees; rather, they help support our costs related to processing, transcript collection, etc. WGU Texas charges a $145 Resource Fee each term. This fee helps cover your use of the online library, e-textbooks, and many other learning resources. With few exceptions, required textbooks are available as e-textbooks, so you won’t have to purchase hard copy textbooks.

Special Fees: (Apply to Select Programs)

Science Lab Fee: $350 (one time)
Individuals pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in science education will require a home science lab and will be assessed this one-time charge (billed separately along with the first term's tuition).

Consolidated Nursing Program Fee: $350 (one time)
Individuals pursuing a nursing degree (with the exception of the Prelicensure B.S. Nursing degree) will be assessed a one-time charge per degree (billed separately along with the first term's tuition). This one-time fee covers any and all additional expenses related to nursing coursework. These can include lab work, third-party exams, and selected learning resources.

Prelicensure Nursing Clinical Education Fee: $500 (per term; effective April 1, 2017)
Individuals pursuing a B.S. Nursing (Prelicensure) degree will be assessed a fee at the start of each 6-month term to cover the costs of the program’s clinical education requirements. This fee supports such components as high-fidelity lab simulations, clinical placement, and the coached clinical intensive model, which allows students who work to be enrolled in a clinical experience.

Demonstration Teaching (standard): $1,000
Individuals enrolled in a Teachers College program that includes student teaching must pay a $100 application fee per cohort, plus a $900 demonstration teaching cohort fee prior to their in-classroom teaching practicum.

Educational Leadership Practicum: $1,000 (one time)
Individuals in the Educational Leadership Endorsement Preparation program or the master of science program will be assessed this fee upon enrollment in the practicum course(s).

Note: As degree programs are updated, additional fees may apply. WGU Texas will notify students of these changes as soon as possible.

How Flat-Rate Tuition Works

WGU Texas tuition focuses on the time needed to complete your entire degree rather than each course individually. All WGU Texas students are treated as "full-time" and are charged tuition at a flat rate regardless of the number of competency units attempted or completed. Our terms are based on a full-time enrollment of at least 12 competency units for undergraduate students and 8 competency units for graduate students.

Note: WGU Texas allows students to work at a pace that’s comfortable for which to complete a full-time course load. During each term, you may complete as many or as few competency units as you like; the same flat rate applies. The faster you complete your degree program the more money you’ll save.

Tuition Covers:

  • All coursework attempted and completed, as well as most learning resources, but excluding hardcopy textbooks, which are listed in the student’s personalized Degree Plan. (With few exceptions, required textbooks are available as e-textbooks, so you won’t have to purchase hard copy textbooks.)
  • All assessments (subject to guidelines for individual assessments and the number of "re-takes" allowed).
  • Ongoing, personalized support from Student Mentors and Course Mentors.

Note: Tuition does not cover some selected other materials or special fees required for some courses and degree programs.

Tuition Deadlines and Processes

For students who plan to pay for tuition themselves (self pay), payments or payment arrangements must be completed on the student portal by:

  • First-term students: by the 22nd day of the month prior to the program start date
  • Renewal-term students: by the first day of the new term

Using Financial Aid

If you cannot afford tuition costs, financial aid may be an option for you. It is your obligation to apply for any state or federal aid and submit the required forms to WGU Texas’s Financial Aid Office. Please review the following deadlines:

  • First-term students must complete the Financial Aid Application Process by 22nd day of the month prior to their program start date. Renewal-term students must complete the application process by the 30th day of the term.

Note: WGU Texas students are eligible for state financial aid and grants available through the State Student Assistance Commission of Texas (SSACI).

How to Pay Tuition

WGU accepts cash, checks, and web checks/EFT at no additional cost to the student. Credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express) are also accepted, but a 2.75% credit card fee applies. Students may make payments through the “Make or View Payments” link in the online student portal. WGU does not accept post-dated checks. WGU will not hold any check for deposit past the date of the receipt of the check. WGU will not be responsible for any bank fees associated with the deposit of said check.

When do new terms begin?

New terms begin on roughly the first day of every month (some exceptions apply) for most programs. After you have applied and been accepted for admission, you must complete an Intake Interview — generally about one week before you plan to start. You’ll also be required to make arrangements to pay your first term’s tuition (either self-pay or through financial aid) prior to your intended start date. An Enrollment Counselor can help you complete the admission process.

Is tuition refundable if I withdraw?

The application fee and resource fee are not refundable. Students who withdraw from WGU or stop progress through the 60-percent (60%) point of a six-month term of enrollment for which tuition is assessed will receive a prorated tuition refund. After that point, there is no provision for a refund.
